Surfside Plaza.
Surfside Plaza, built in the seventies, has survived despite the harsh elements. If walls could talk there would be many weather related stories to tell. According to http://www.weather.unysys.com there have been 476 Atlantic tropical storms or hurricane events since 1973. Of this, 35 have directly impacted the Outer Banks with their wrath. These 35 storms, added to the frequent nor'easters, and our daily dose of on shore wind, have provided a backdrop for our historic location, which we refer to as "downtown Nags Head".
Our space has history. Many visitors often comment about their trips to Surfside Plaza before the Outer Banks was developed. They comment about their memories of the two lane by-pass, a sand covered beach road, and lots of undeveloped land. They remember parking on the shoulder of the road to climb Jockey's Ridge. They remember the Epsien tract of land, now home to the Village at Nags Head. And they fondly remember going to the big shopping center named Surfside Plaza, the premier shopping site on the Outer Banks. Yes, our location is historic!
